Eccleston CE Primary School, Chester
Value engineering to deliver modernised toilets
Project Value: £49,500
Eccleston Primary School needed to refurbish three toilet blocks for staff, boys and girls at the school, and it was vital that most of the work could be undertaken safely while the school was still in operation. The school came to Concept for our reliable, premium end-to-end building services and the flexibility and knowledge of our team.
Though the project specification initially exceeded the available budget, by working closely with the client Concept was able to implement value engineering techniques to identify and eliminate unwanted costs, which enabled the refurbishment to go ahead. Strict cost control was maintained, and Concept was able to add a few ‘extras’ free of charge to ensure the new facilities met all the needs of the school.
Team highly praised for maintaining safety and discipline on a ‘live’ school site
Phase One was to refurbish the staff toilets over one week during the half-term break. Several drainage issues had to be resolved and additional work done to remove floors before refitting could commence. The highly skilled Concept team worked long and hard to ensure that removal of existing fittings and installation of new cubicles, toilets, sinks and associated services were completed by the resumption of school activities.
Phases Two and Three won the team further plaudits for their installation of both boys’ and girls’ toilets over five weeks during term time, while the school was in operation. Strict site rules regarding the use and storage of equipment, the security of the working area and the behaviour of all operatives meant the works were carried out safely and satisfactorily while the children continued with their education.
The handover was successfully completed to deadline, and saw school staff delighted with the results - another job to be proud of, and another satisfied customer in the Education sector!
